HIEP LE DUC is an independent artist/graphic designer who based in Ho Chi Minh City.
Although he was trained in economics in college, he chose to pursue a career in art instead. Since 2009 he has worked as Art Director and Creative Director for many magazines and publications in Vietnam. He is now well-known for the many posters he created for Vietnamese films such as Co Ba Sai Gon, Hai Phuong, Thang Nam Ruc Ro, Song Lang…
In 2020, his name and his works is known internationally for the popular Covid-19 propaganda posters. With a simple yet powerful message of “To stay at home is to love your country”, the poster came during Vietnam’s critical moment of the fight against Covid-19. Its vintage, communism-styled imagery and serious yet funny messages quickly caught everyone attention and went viral first in Vietnam and outside the country. International media such as The Guardian, Nikkei Asian Review, EFE, DW, AFP… wrote about Hiep with praises for the poster.
The first 60 prints of the poster were sold to raise money for the Rice ATMs in Vietnam. In conjunction with the celebration of Vietnam’s Reunification Day in April 2020, Hiep created another poster with the message “Thank You Vietnam!” as a tribute to the doctors, nurses and front-liners that help fighting against the Covid-19.
